This is a popular place known for their luroufan (braised pork rice) that has a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Mr Bao found this place on one of Janice Fung’s Taiwan food videos. The food looked great and there were many good reviews on Google. We decided to go for lunch and it was crowded but the turnover was quick as they get customers to share tables. I would personally come back and I think it lives up to the hype.
Luroufan (Braised Pork Rice)
While it looked like a small portion, I think it was the perfect ratio of meat to rice. The sauce was savoury and incredibly flavourful. The meat was meltingly soft, much more than any luroufan that I’ve ever had. Every mouth just whetted my appetite for more and very soon I was faced with an empty bowl. π€€
Braised pork trotter
I’m not a huge meat eater but Mr Bao wanted to order this. He said it was good. π Alright, next dish!
Cabbage
I just wanted some vegetables and I think the quality of “simple” dishes can show how good a place is. Cabbage was done well and to my liking.
Shredded Bamboo Shoots
I love bamboo so I decided to order this. I would approach this with a smidgen of caution. As I learned over the next few days, the bamboo in Taiwan has a much stronger smell and taste than the bamboo I usually eat at home. While it shocked me at first, there’s still something that I like about it.
Overall
Highly recommend this place, especially since it’s still quite close to some tourist spots. I would have come here a second time if we didn’t have other food items that we needed to check off. Next time, I would try some of their other sides. I think the braised tofu looked quite popular with the other patrons.
