Introduction
Starbucks really doesn’t need a coffee noob to do a review for them. But it also means they won’t mind if a coffee noob talks about their experience right? I decided to write about my trip to Starbucks because I don’t go to cafes often, so I want to remember my experience. Also, this is my blog and I can decide to write about mundane things too okay!
Mr Bao and I were at Suntec because I wanted to visit the Makers Fair event that was happening that weekend. We had a $10 Starbucks gift card that we used to offset this purchase that would otherwise have been $21.70! I know Starbucks is expensive but this was just kind of crazy. Our dinner for two at LauWang claypot set us back the same amount.
Admittedly, the café at Suntec was great for people watching. Since there was a Maker’s Fair going on and Suntec has a lot of hobby shops, we saw lots of people in cosplay or with fun keychains on their bags. Some people were playing card games, some were doing work, and some were just spending time with friends. I think I’m ultimately paying for the atmosphere. I’d love to set aside time someday to just sit in a corner of Starbucks, slowly enjoy my drink, and sketch people.
Spinach and mushroom quiche ($6.90)
We grabbed this meatless hot meal option because we were a little hungry. It was ok, but for the portion size, I don’t think it was worth the price. Keep in mind I’m comparing this to things outside of Starbucks that I could buy with $7, like a proper food court meal.
Oat Milk Matcha Latte Frappucino with less sugar, no whipped cream (~$7)
In the other few times I’ve had the matcha latte from Starbucks, I’ve always found it a tad too sweet. This time, I asked for less sugar and it was just right! It makes the drink less cloying, though I admit I seem to have gotten used to the sweetness. I’m not sure if it was the oat milk or the fact that it was an ice-blended drink but it didn’t taste as “milky”. If I somehow go back, I might opt for a regular Iced Matcha Latte instead. I still think about the one I had at Matchaya sometimes.
Chocolate Chip Frappuccino (~$7)
This was Mr Bao’s choice and I had a little sip of it. It was ok, but I preferred the matcha latte. 🤪
