🤫 Synopsis

Holland is a writer working for her uncle at his acclaimed Broadway play. A key member is missing and she knows exactly who could fill the role. Trouble is he isn’t in the US legally. She decides to marry him for a year, a move that will secure him a visa, to save her uncle’s play.

This book is a light hearted one with the sham marriage as the hook and central plot line. It’s mostly a romance novel but surprisingly there’s also a thread about Holland finding her way through her mid-twenties. While the romance part was fun and well-written, it was also a bit ridiculous. The plot itself was tightly written but predictable. I probably wouldn’t read it again but it wasn’t a bad book.

My favourite aspects about this book were those about Broadway and the actor life. I also loved the little moments between Holland and her uncles. My favourite was one chapter in which she approaches her Uncle Jeff, who is a wall street analyst, on how she was feeling lost in life.

I would recommend this to people who enjoy adult fiction with romance and mature themes (Warning: 18+). If you’re looking for something more light-hearted with a dash of Broadway and New York life, this might be a good one to try.

✒️ Writer’s block

I miss writing. I wrote endless short stories during college and while getting my master’s. I had to write every day or I felt like a clogged drain, full of words. The day I got my degree and turned to face the world as a person no longer under the protective umbrella of school, it seemed like all the ideas dried up.
