The anti-thesis to One Day (2024).
I had seen quite a lot of promotion for the show online and recall seeing headlines that it had been well-received by audiences. It wasn’t at the top of my watch list until a friend recommended it to me. I decided to watch it and it was exactly my cup of tea. 🍵
In a nutshell, the show is about a newly single Jewish rabbi and a non-Jewish serial dating podcaster falling in love. For me, this was a great portrayal of a healthy relationship. So much so that it was almost unbelievable at times. However, the show’s conversations, characters, and settings were rooted firmly in reality.
The cast of characters was interesting, though I cringed a little in the beginning when the main lead was yapping on her podcast. I think it’s because it feels like we are at a podcast saturation point right now. The sibling dynamic is kind of dysfunctional but maybe sisters are like that, I wouldn’t know. The Jewish family is even more dysfunctional, contributing to some of the more memorable scenes. I particularly loved the “loser siblings” dynamic and their relationship arc during the show.
What surprised me was that the show was laugh-out-loud kind of funny. Also, rom-coms sometimes try too hard with the comedy and end up giving me second-hand embarrassment. There are such over-the-top moments in this show, but they only endeared me to the characters more.

The ending made me tear up and rush to message my friend so we could gush over the show together, but I thought it was somewhat unrealistic. After chatting with her and some colleagues though, I guess it is more than possible for people to give up their “dreams” for love. If one decides that their partner takes precedent, then the choice is simple.
This is a cosy modern rom-com with rewatch potential. It’s low-stakes but will have you kicking your feet. Would recommend.
