Chili crab linguine ($21)

I was really attracted by the photos of this that I had seen online. It looked like quite a popular dish with good ratings so I figured we couldn’t go wrong. As it turns out, it was wonderful!

Photo description: A bowl of linguine in a orange sauce with chunks of crab. The pasta is topped with three golden-brown buns, fried curry leaves, and a small serving of tobiko.

For some context, I’m the kind of chili crab fan that thinks the buns and sauce are the main stars. So me and this dish were a match made in heaven! But fret not, crab meat lovers. There was still plenty of flaky crab meat in there too. The tobiko added a little saltiness to counteract the sweetness and spice of the chili crab sauce.

Speaking of the sauce, it was a tad spicier than I expected. My nose was sweating a little while eating. Still, I loved it so much, I was this close to licking the bowl clean. To maintain my dignity though, I tried to ration the linguine and the sauce for the perfect ratio.

The buns are perfect, though we had to eat them quickly for peak-crispiness. Also, it may appear as if you are getting 3 buns when there are only 1.5 as the buns in the photo are cut into halves. While I felt a little cheated that there was less bun, the side that was cut is extra crispy. Yum!

Stuffed Berries Hotcake ($20)

My friend was really drawn to this hotcake so who was I to say no? Turns out we are both fans of MacDonald’s hotcakes. The one from this café though, was not what we expected. Instead of a stack, it’s just ONE whole hotcake. It’s quite thick, but cooked through with a crispy brown edge. The batter tastes lovely and everything went well together. The tartness of the fresh fruits countered the sweetness of the batter. The crunch of the nuts complemented the fluffy hotcake base.

Photo description: The hotcake topped with walnuts, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, fresh blueberries, fresh strawberries, a quenelle of cream cheese with chia seeds sprinkled on top. The hotcake is dusted with some powdered icing and microgreens.

The hotcake also comes with cream cheese. Personally, the cream cheese seemed to throw the balance off. I would have preferred just a regular whipped cream, like the kind that’s found in Chateraise desserts.

One warning though, this pancake is quite dense. We weren’t able to finish it between the two of us, but we’re also smaller eaters.

Iced Passion Fruit Mint Tea ($7)

I’ve been on a bit of a mint kick recently so I got baited into buying this. It had the right amount of mint and sugar with what looked like nata de coco at the bottom. But … for 7 whole dollars, this was just not worth it for me. Next time I’ll just stick with the free water that comes with every table.
