Food Review

Lu Rou Fan & Lu Rou Mian (Braised meat rice & Braised eat noodles) – $5

The presentation looks great
Loved the chewy springy noodles

Our first impressions were that they gave a decent amount of liao (ingredients). These are their signature dishes and you can choose between having them with rice or noodles so we tried both. I personally preferred the noodles but both are good options. They also gave an entire egg and a generous portion of savoury tender braised meat. After you mix the ingredients together, this flavour is occasionally punctuated by the nutty taste and texture of the braised peanuts and the freshness from the shredded cabbage.

Salt & Pepper Fried Chicken (Side) – $5

The amount of chicken for $5 when we bought it the first time.
The chicken was delicious though

We actually ordered this by mistake the first time. I’d ordered this chicken with rice as a set meal but the order might have gotten lost in communication. On that trip, I ended up with just a side of chicken which felt like a small amount for $5. For the same price, you could get the set meal which includes rice and other ingredients. However, the second time we ordered this as a side (intentionally this time), it felt like there was more chicken! It’s possible that I’d remembered wrongly though.

Regardless, I think this was delicious. The outside was crispy and the chicken pieces on the inside were tender. The stallholders will ask if you want chili or not and I’d recommend adding it. The chili powder gives it a little kick. 🌶️

Braised Peanuts & Braised Tau Kwa (Sides) – $2 each

This was standard and good. 😗

Final thoughts

We’re happy to have found a new stall to try. The food is good and we can see that they’ve focused on just a few core ingredients so the quality should remain pretty standard or improve over time. I think the only con is that it’s a bit pricey for a hawker centre, but otherwise I think it’s a hearty and satisfying meal.
