Food Review
On our last day, we decided to try the famous Nasi Lemak that was just around the corner from our hotel. This store was featured in the Michelin Guide and had many positive reviews on Google. We got there early in the morning at around 8.15am so there was only a short wait. There were plenty of seats as this stall was set up in a food court.
We ordered one packet of Bilis Telur (Fried anchovies and a hard boiled egg) and one packet of Sotong (Squid) for 2.50 RM each. We also got some pastries from other stalls and I got myself a big bag of Hor Ka Sai since I figured this would be spicy. Boy was that an understatement. 😐
These packets were small but they packed a PUNCH. Just looking at these photos makes my tongue tingle. I don’t even know if I could tell you whether the food was good or not because of how spicy it was. I kid you not this is probably the spiciest thing I’ve ever had in my life. I tried to chase every bite with a big gulp of my iced drink but I ended up having to just power through the whole packet to get it over with.
It felt like the chili was trying to burn its way through the roof of my mouth and into my skull. 🔥🔥🔥 This spice is no joke!! Thankfully we ordered stuff that had no bones so we just wolfed everything down and comforted ourselves with our big bag of Iced Hor Ka Sai and our sweet pastries.
Overall verdict
I wouldn’t eat this again just because of how spicy it was. For me, at the regular spice level, it was too painful to be enjoyed. Just thinking about it makes my nose sweat. 🥵 If you have a high spice tolerance, feel free to give it a try. Personally, I think it might be worse than the spicy noodle challenge. For the regular spice people, I think you can request for less spicy but we didn’t try. Good luck spice warriors. ✌️
